DHSS releases the FFY2010 Annual Synar Report, showing significant improvement in retailer rate of sales of tobacco to minors. This year’s rate of illegal sales of tobacco products to minors is 9%; a decreased from last year’s rate of 15.1%. CONGRATULATIONS to our tobacco retailer community for working hard to promote healthy Alaskan youth, free from tobacco use, dependency and addiction.

Anchorage Youth Development Academy
October 2009 – March 2010. The Youth Development Academy is for people who work directly with youth (ages 12-18.) This is an intensive 38 hour training spanning 6 months, based on the highly researched methods from the Center for Youth Program Quality: a partnership between the Forum for Youth Investment and High/Scope Educational Research Foundation. It will consist of an initial three-day training session, four follow-up & coaching sessions, with a final wrap-up session on March 4, 2010.
