Early Intervention/Infant Learning Program
What:
Developmental screening and evaluation; individualized family service plans to outline goals for the family and their child; child development information; home visits; physical, occupational or speech therapy; specialized equipment; and or referrals to other needed services.
Why:
For every dollar invested in early childhood programs, savings of $3.78 to $17.07 can be expected (Heckman, James, Grunewald, Rob, and Reynolds, Arthur. 2006. ZERO TO THREE Journal 26 (6): 10-17). Studies have found a number of long-term cost savings in terms of decreased grade repetition, reduced special education spending, enhanced productivity, lower welfare costs, increased tax revenues, and lower juvenile justice costs.
