Anchorage, Alaska - - - The Alaska Division of Public Health (DPH) and the San Francisco-based Hepatitis C Support Project are sponsoring a community forum to discuss hepatitis C issues and concerns. The forum is open to the public and will be held on Thursday, September 18, from 7pm to 9pm in the Wilda Marston Theater at the Z.J. Loussac Library (3600 Denali Street) in Anchorage.

The agenda for the forum includes presentations by Dr. Steve Livingston from the Alaska Native Medical Center Viral Hepatitis Program, Dr. Song-Qing Gan from the Veterans Administration Medical System Hepatitis C Program, a speaker’s panel led by Mr. Alan Franciscus, and a question and answer session. Anyone affected by hepatitis C is encouraged to attend, including family, friends and health care providers.

“Hepatitis C affects many Alaskans and unfortunately there is no vaccine available to prevent it. Through education and dialogue, like at this forum, we hope to raise awareness about hepatitis C including preventive measures and coping skills,” said DPH Director Doug Bruce.

For more information about the forum or hepatitis C, contact the Section of Epidemiology at (907) 269-8000.
