Public comment opportunity available for proposed regulations for Child Care Licensing, Child Care Assistance, Child Care Grants, and environmental safety in all facilities DHSS licenses

Public hearing May 16 follows extensive series of informational workshops and statewide teleconferences April 11 – April 30

( Juneau, Alaska) — The Alaska Department of Health and Social Services announced that regulations for Child Care Licensing, Child Care Assistance, Child Care Grants, a nd environmental safety in licensed facilities including Foster Care, Assisted Living Homes, and health care facilities are available for public comment through May 17, 2005. The package includes changes to regulations for the Department of Education and Early Development and the Department of Environmental Conservation.

Draft regulations are available for review and comment on the DHSS Web site at: http://www.hss.state.ak.us/publicnotice/regulations.cfm. Due to the extensive nature of these proposed regulations, it is strongly suggested that anyone affected by or interested in the subject matter obtain a copy of the proposed changes from the web site, or by contacting Mary Lorence, Alaska Child Care Program Manager, at the address below.

Several public informational workshops, listed below, are scheduled in addition to public hearings so that affected persons may ask questions and receive more information regarding the proposed changes. Oral comments will not be taken at these public workshops, but will be taken at public hearings scheduled after the workshops.

Comments on the proposed regulation changes, including the potential costs to private persons of complying with the proposed changes, can be submitted in writing to Mary Lorence, Alaska Child Care Program Manager, Dept. of Health and Social Services, Child Care Program Office, 619 E. Ship Creek Avenue, Suite 230, Anchorage, AK 99501-1677, telephone (907) 269-4500. Oral or written comments can be submitted at hearings to be held at the Legislative Information Offices in Fairbanks, Juneau and Anchorage on May 16. Comments can also be made by e-mail at ccporegsproject@health.state.ak.us, or by facsimile at (907) 269-4536. The comments must be received no later than 4:30 p.m. on May 17, 2005. Written comments received are public records and are subject to public inspection.

Eleven Public Informational Workshops slated in five communities and teleconferenced statewide

Several public informational workshops are scheduled in addition to public hearings so that affected persons may ask questions and receive more information regarding the proposed changes. Oral comments will not be taken at these public workshops, but will be taken at public hearings scheduled after the workshops. The workshops are intended to help affected persons better understand the proposed regulations in order to make more comprehensive written comments.
