( Anchorage, Alaska) — Gov. Frank H. Murkowski and Alaska Department of Health and Social Services Commissioner Karleen Jackson today presented $20,000 to Food Bank of Alaska at its warehouse facility to support the Anchorage Thanksgiving Blessing project.

“ During the holiday season, food banks and food pantries get their greatest number of requests for food ,” Gov. Murkowski sa id. “ Our contribution will help Food Bank of Alaska do a job that it already does quite well — provide food for the Thanksgiving holiday for many families in Anchorage and assist in combating hunger in Alaska during this time of significant need.”

In addition to the distribution sites, more than 20 faith-based organizations are participating with Food Bank of Alaska in the collection and distribution effort.

Food Bank of Alaska collects and redistributes donated food to individuals and agencies. Food donations are received from the local community and commercial vendors and distributed through many programs.
