( Fairbanks, Alaska) —Department of Health and Social Services Deputy Commissioner Bill Hogan today presented $20,000 to the Fairbanks Community Food Bank at its warehouse facility to support the Thanksgiving food distribution effort.
“ During the holidays, the Fairbanks Community Food Bank gets its greatest number of requests for food ,” Hogan said . “ The state’s contribution of $20,000 will help Fairbanks Community Food Bank do more of what you have committed to do — provide food for the Thanksgiving holiday for many Fairbanks families and assist in combating hunger in Alaska during this time of significant need.”
The Fairbanks Community Food Bank expects to serve up to 1,500 households for the Thanksgiving holiday. The Food Bank is cooperating with The Salvation Army, First Presbyterian Church in Fairbanks and Lord of Life Lutheran Church in North Pole for the food distribution effort.
“Each one of us can make a positive difference in the lives of our friends and neighbors by supporting the creative and collaborative community of people who do the hands-on work of feeding families,” Hogan said. “We are here to encourage others to contribute early toward the Food Bank’s Thanksgiving effort to ensure that the Food Bank can plan ahead to meet the needs of the families that participate.”
Fairbanks Community Food Bank collects and redistributes donated food to individuals and agencies. Food donations are received from the local community and about 100 commercial vendors, and distributed through many programs including Food Boxes, Bone Builders and Agency Shopping.
