Alaska Council on Emergency Medical Services awards recipients announced

Children and emergency personnel from across Alaska among those honored

(Anchorage, Alaska) ─ The Governor’s Annual Awards for Emergency Medical Services (EMS) were announced today at the opening session of the Alaska EMS Symposium, and will be presented the evening of November 11 at the Annual Alaska EMS Awards Banquet at the Egan Convention Center in Anchorage. The Alaska Department of Health and Social Services congratulates the following award recipients:

§         EMS Citizen Award: Kara Burns, age 10, of Naknek, who is honored for saving two people from an overturned vehicle in a water-filled ditch on May 31, 2006.

§         EMS Provider of the Year Award: Timothy McKeown of Willow, who died in the line of duty and is honored posthumously for his long career in EMS.

§         EMS Educator Award: Ron Bowers of Dillingham, in recognition of his selfless dedication to providing quality EMS instruction.

§         EMS Administrator Award: Teresa Seybert of Dillingham, who is honored for her excellent management of the Bristol Bay EMS area.

§         George H. Longenbaugh Award: Dr. William Anthes of Ketchikan, in recognition of his 23 years of support to the Ketchikan Fire Department as Physician Medical Director.

§         Melissa Ann Peters Memorial Award: Beth Connor, R.N. of Chugiak, in recognition of her services as an EMS instructor, a volunteer responder and a pediatric intensive care nurse.

§         Outstanding Ambulance Service Award: Central Matanuska-Susitna Ambulance Service of Wasilla, for dedicated service and success in meeting the challenges of a surge in population in his service area.

§         Special Commendation: Desmond King Sr. of Metlakatla, for his judgment, leadership and dedicated service to his community as an Emergency Medical Technician and Assistant Fire Chief.

§         Friend of EMS Award: Ronni Sullivan of the Southern Region EMS Council in Anchorage, for her long career in EMS and unwavering dedication to the people of Alaska and the EMS System. This award is given on rare occasions to a person who has made significant and lasting contributions to EMS in Alaska.
