Foraker offers training to H&SS staff

Juneau H&SS staff who administer grants to nonprofit health and social service agencies attended a training session on Friday, January 11.

Presenter Dennis McMillian shared information about the Foraker Group, which provides education, training and support to strengthen the management skills of nonprofit professionals throughout Alaska. The training session will help H&SS staff who work with nonprofit agencies to better serve those agencies by supporting their capacity-building efforts.

The Foraker Group has three goals:

1. to build Alaska's philanthropic infrastructure by helping nonprofit organizations function at capacity;
2. to provide high-quality, cost-effective technical services; and
3. to increase the skills of the volunteers and staff working in the sector. McMillian is the President of the Foraker Group, and also the President of United Way of Anchorage.
