The Alaska Primary Care Council (APCC) is a Commissioner-appointed advisory council that addresses important issues of primary care in Alaska.
The Purpose for the Alaska Primary Care Council is to:
- Explore and document the potential for and challenges to primary care development and delivery in Alaska, using the best professional information available.
- Propose a framework for rational development and deployment of statewide capacity for primary care systems.
- Establish core principles to ensure a coordinated, cost-effective, and integrated approach to primary care systems.
- Consider ways to assess effectiveness, efficiency, and whether or not primary care is improving equity of access to health services for all Alaskans.
- Recommend a long-term process for addressing issues as they emerge.
- Address other issues of mutual interest.
The Health Planning and Systems Development Unit of the Department of Health and Social Services provides staff support for the Alaska Primary Care Council (APCC). The APCC is facilitated by the Department of Health and Social Services Chief Medical Officer, and comprised of senior leadership from the following organizations:
